Accessibility statement

This website should be usable by everyone — with a mouse, with a keyboard, with a screen reader, with enlarged text. Here you can read what has been done to achieve this and where there are still problems.

Target standard

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. This is the benchmark that the European standard EN 301 549, the German Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) and the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) also refer to.

What has been implemented

  • Two languages. Every page is also available in German. The “DE” switch at the top right leads to the matching page, and every page is marked up with its language so that screen readers pronounce it correctly.
  • Full keyboard operation. Every function can be reached without a mouse. On narrow screens, the menu can be opened with the keyboard, navigated, and closed again with Esc; focus stays inside it while it is open and then returns to the menu button.
  • Visible focus. The element currently selected always has a clear outline.
  • Skip link. At the very start of every page, a link takes you straight to the content, past the navigation.
  • Checked colour contrasts. All text and background combinations have been checked by calculation and are above the required values (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and controls). Light pastel shades are used only for surfaces, never for text.
  • Colour is never the only indicator. The current page in the navigation is also marked by a background, font weight and a dot.
  • Meaningful structure. Headings follow a logical order, sections are marked up as landmarks, tables have header cells, and form fields have associated labels.
  • Motion can be switched off. If you have set “Reduce motion” in your operating system, you get the page without animations — and still see all the content in full.
  • Zoom. Text can be enlarged to 200 per cent without any content being lost or you having to scroll horizontally.
  • Large click areas. Buttons and menu items are at least 44 by 44 pixels in size.
  • No data traps. This website does not embed anything from other providers — no videos, no maps, no fonts. There is nothing that loads later or asks for consent.
  • All images have alternative text. Images that are purely decorative are marked as such and are skipped by screen readers.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following points, which have not yet been resolved:

  • Easy-to-read language and sign language. So far there is no version in Easy Language (Leichte Sprache) and no sign language video.
  • Moving elements on the home page. The home page uses animations when you scroll. They can be switched off (see above), but are on by default.
  • Linked third-party services. We cannot vouch for the accessibility of other providers' pages that we link to.
